deleting os selection on dual boot

I have a dualboot xp/RH9. After doing updates on my RH9 it added a os selection on startup. it used to only be DOS or - 2.4.20-8, now it also has 2.4.20-24.9 , I can assume the later is the upgraded RH. now can i delete the old RH selection from the list or is it needed?

To add to Demonbane's comments, you will see the entries for the old kernel - I normally 'rem' or comment out the old lines, that way, if your new config has problems, you can simmply uncomment out your old config and run from that to fix the problems.

if you use lilo, you should reinstall it into the mbr by executimg "lilo" after editing your lilo.conf
