Damn you mouse!

Hey all,

I figured this should go into the newbie section as it has happened both times I've installed Linux and has happened to friends so it's probably a common problem. I am running SuSE 9.1 Pro and have a Logitech wheel mouse plugged into a mouse port. After hardware detection SuSE recongnised the mouse as a Microsoft one, but I let it do that as it just worked. A couple weeks later the mouse starts going crazy and looks like it's posessed but that was fixed with a resart. Now my mouse is screwed and drags along the bottom or top af the screen on a 2D plane and wont move from there. The weird thing is I have a Windows ME partition on the machine and booting into Windows the same damn thing happened?! I thought it was a Linux driver issue but why is it stuffing up my Windows partition and drivers? Help me please ppl, I don't want to format again

linux should do absolutely nothing to windows on a separate patition. this is assuming of course that you haven't mounted that partition and gone mucking around...

could it be that the mouse is the problem, and not the driver, or linux, or some such software problem?

i'd do the usual...check that the connection between mouse and comp is good and snug, make sure that (if it's a mechanical mouse (non optical)) the inside wheels are not covered in crud. (take out the ball and look at the little rollers) and if it is an optical mouse, make sure that nothing is blocking it (hair, schmutz, etc).

hope this helps.
