Cannot post review

You don't have permission to access /reviews/showproduct.php on this server.

Greetz, mcuda & welcome to LQ.

Volunteers here use the information you give them to diagnose & solve your issues. You have posted no information at all except the error. Please read This Tutorial.

The error you posted says you don't have permission. What do you think that means? I think it means you don't have permission.

Fourth item is: book and distribution reviews
Which LQ no longer supports.

There are many threads about this, e.g.
https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ws-4175699424/

Try DistroWatch.com

I am very new to this forum and don't know my way around. I found these responses less than friendly. This is not the kind of community I want to be part of so you have seen the last of me. Bye

Whichever forum you wind up on, you're actually going to have to ask a clear question. You posted *NOTHING* that would let anyone help you, did you??? You posted a vague message that was (we're guessing) from some website.
You don't tell us
  • Version/distro of Linux on your client
  • What web browser you're using
  • What site you're visiting
  • Why you think this is Linux related at all
  • etc.
And somehow expect us to guess??? Would you call an auto mechanic and say, "Car doesn't go. Help", and not expect them to need more than that??? Good luck.

Well if there were a prize for the most hostile reception to a newcomer, business-kid and TBone would tie! To be blunt, those two responders seem to have passed their sell-by date: this is reminiscent of the sort of arrogance that was common in the Linux community 20 years ago but has mostly died out.

The problem is not with the OP but with the site: the reviews section has been dropped but the link still left. How long would it have taken just to say that? With a site created by volunteers such things will inevitably happen, but newcomers cannot be expected to know that.

Since our responses don't fit your exacting standards, I'm sure you've never seen any other threads complaining about not being able to sign up for the Debian forum, or having problems on some other Linux-related site, right?? Yet somehow we're supposed to assume things?? And since you're complaining about us, why didn't you chime in earlier??

All this OP posted is a vague message that could be for any site. And is it too much to ask the OP to say, "I'm going to https://linuxquestions.org/reviews and getting this message"?

FTR, does anyone else see great rudeness in what I posted?

@OP=#4 (IF you do see this): I'm sorry if you took my terse statement of facts as 'less than friendly'. Any 'sternness' in my #3 (simply stating facts) was directed at #2, not your #1. (It seems to me to be a FAQ in the feedback forum, which I would not expect a new user to know.)

Also #2 had said 'Welcome', so I (apparently wrongly) assumed you would feel fully welcome here.

Although you omitted the host name in your link: https://www.linuxquestions.org/reviews/showproduct.php , it was obvious to me. It might have helped to specify where/how you found that on the internet, since I don't see it as one of the links on the right side.

'Thick skin' is often recommended for internet users in general.

Bye.

N.B.: the OP *never* asked what the error message meant! I believed they were just asking *why* they got that error from LQ (a frequent! got-ya in the feedback forum). Rather than saying "The internet said Foo. What do you think that means? I think it means Foo.", I feel it would be more polite to say "Without my understanding exactly what you did, I have no more information than that error message".

No, I don't. And quite honestly, I have NEVER seen that review link here until today, so I'd not ever assume it was for LQ. Especially with a "showproduct.php" page...what "products" does LQ sell/review, that would lead me to think it'd be here??

“You can’t win ‘em all.” A post-#1 newbie who seriously wanted to post here would expend more effort in trying to do so. Therefore, simply pay it no mind.
