Cable Modem Connection ?

I have been unable to get Mandrake 9.2 to connect to the internet via the Cable Modem my Cable-TV provider supplied me with. I don't have any type of home network. My computer is a new Toshiba A15 laptop. the cable modem is also from Toshiba.

The problem, (I think), is that when I select "Cable Modem" during installation, Mandrake asks for the address. Yet when I select "LAN", it doesn't work at all. Cox Internet tells me their technical support does not include Linux Systems; Toshiba's tech support is a joke.

Does anyone know how to configure this so I can get on the internet via Mandrake instead of Win-XP like I'm doing to post this ?

Thank You

Ken
