Boot probs with Vector and Puppy

I would be grateful if anyone could help with the following probs.

None of the following will boot to completion

On my latest Puppy Linux live CD, I get so far with the bootup then the following screen after which the bootup dies.

Message pause 60 secs. Setup the Unionfs layered filesystem Perform a 'switch-root to the new Unions filesystem Kernel panic - not syncing attempted to kill init
++++++++++++++++++++

DSL Live CD cannot recognise any of its files or progammes nor the Broadband connection which according to Dillo, it should be able to without any probs. Only a few of Firefox's operation files will open. The shutdown button will work, but thats it.
++++++++++++++++++++

Part way through the bootup and after you're requested to press return on the VectorLinux live CD, it will go on to the next screen then stop booting. I can't remember what the screen says at that point, having forgot to make a note.

A million thanks to anyone who can help.

PS Machine, XP Home 160gh memory, 3gb ram. CD Priority already done.

minny

Are you trying to install these or run as live cds?

I do not understand the specs on your computer. If the 160 gh mem is hd gigs or is that the memory installed? The 3 gig of ram is I presume is your memory. I am not familiar with the two distros (Puppy and DSL) other than they are supposed to work with older smaller computers. If you have 3 gig of mem I might suggest trying a live distro such as (the latest version)of ubuntu or PCLinuxOS or Live Suse. Even if it is an older set and has 160 meg of memory it is my understanding that DSL should run with about 80 meg of memory.

Larry,

The 160gb is the hard drive memory. The 3gb is the ram speed mem.

I am trying to operate them from the Live CD for the time being, ie, if I can get them to fully boot.

Thanks for reply.

Being honest you are above my skill level but I am wondering if you may have a video card not supported by your distros. That is why I recommended the live distros that I did. I think they have the latest releases and probably the newest kernels.
