all windows open above the top of the screen

Is there a way to set a default location for windows to open. All of my windows open above the top of the screen, and I have to drag them back down.

Background: I'm using an eeepc with Gutsy running from an SD card. The desktop is Gnome with Compiz-fusion. I updated the kernel with the custom eee kernel and almost everything worked great. I should have left it alone after that, but I tinkered. I ran the ubuntu-eee scripts again, and a coulpe of things broke. This one is the most annoying. The worse one is that I can't drag using the touch pad, but I'll post another thread. If anyone needs more background info than this let me know.
Thanks

That may be a consequence of a misconfigured xorg.conf file. Have you tried running sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg?

Try ctrl - or ctrl + (that is the + and - keys on the number pad) to change screen resolutions.

I've had a similar problem once. Somehow, reason unknown to me, I had set one resolution during installation of the OS. When I booted into the installed OS, everything appeared on screen at a lower resolution (things were larger, extended offscreen) but the mouse cursor was constrained to the visible desktop, so I couldn't pull back anything offscreen unless part of the window title bar was visible.

Ctrl - changed resolution to bring things back onto the desktop properly. I then took note of the screen resolution and ran the nvidia utility /usr/bin/nvidia-settings to reconfigure my xorg.conf. It's worked fine since then.

It your graphics card is something other than nvidia, you may have a similar situation working.
