VPN client setup in Linux

Could anyone help me getting my VPN-connection up and running on my Linux box.
Right now, I need to run Windows and "Internet connection sharing" to get Internet on my network.
I would like to do the same on my Linux box, make it connect to the Internet through VPN and setup a gateway/routing service to make the other computers in my network have Internet this way...

Here is a guide for Windows on how to setup this connection

Hi, I've downloaded a script for using pptp and pppd for connecting to a (pptp) VPN-server.
But the connection fails... If someone could help me figure out why, I'd be really greatful.

script output:
VPN for NHH Linux startup script
Found Gateway 10.162.1.2
Found nameservers: 10.160.1.1 10.160.1.2
Starting pptp connection to NHH VPN gateway
Could not start pptp connection to vpn server
Please take a look at /var/log/messages for output log

These are the lines where the script fails, between
Starting pptp connection to NHH VPN gateway
Could not start pptp connection to vpn server

${PPTP_BIN} $VPN_TARGET_ADDRESS file $OPTIONS_FILE &
sleep 8
PPP_DEVICE=`ifconfig|grep -v ppp0|grep ppp|awk ' { print $1}'`

This is what's written in /var/log/messages:
