Unhappy linux vpn client issue

Hey guys,
I have a linux vpn client that I can't seem to get goin..what happens is, when I start the vpn client by using the "vpnclient connect (name of the server)", ( I do this as a normal user, not as su)I am asked to enter in the group name and password. But when I enter the same, the following messages appear:

Initializing the VPN connection.
Secure VPN Connection terminated locally by the Client
Reason: Failed to establish a VPN connection.
There are no new notification messages at this time.

Could someone help me understand as to what the problem could be? I tried this by disabling the firewall but the same result ensues. I also tried it running the entire thing as su, but to no avail.

thanks!
vish
