Unable to use wget and unable to ping machine from external source

Hello folks! I am a newbie here and new to LInux too, so just wondered if you could give me a hand.

I have installed Fedora Core 5. I am logged in as root and I am trying to install CPanel. When I tried to run the wget command, it siad "network unreachable". During the setup, i gave the box an external IP address. All ports are opened and forwarded to the IP, however, i'm unable to ping from another machine.
I checked my hosts file, which looks like this

127.0.0.1 localhost
212.241.xxx.xxx intense.firedns.co.uk
212.241.xxx.xxx

How can I resolve this issue?
Many thanks

James Grunshaw

sounds like you've no default gateway or something. what does the output of "ifconfig" and "route -n" say?

and for christs sake.. don't give out real ip addresses.

inet addr:212.241.xxx.xxx Bcast:212.xxx.xxx.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:1218286 (1.1 MiB) TX bytes:3809 (3.7 KiB)

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0

TX packets:8 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0

RX bytes:560 (560.0 b) TX bytes:560 (560.0 b)

And here is the output from route -n

No gateway

As Chris told there is no gateway for your machine
Pls add the gateway address provided by your ISP
