Unhappy slackware 8 and samba

i've read and read til my eyes fall out... i'm sittin here trying to glue them back in... and calling it a night :P my struggle right now is trying to get samba to mount my winxp or win2k shares...

i've searched this forum high and low for some clues, some came close.. others were all about red hat or something...

i have a p200 64mb 8gb 2mb matrox mill. vc slackware8 linuxbox

i had done a google search also for any related documents, its really hard to find ANYTHING specifically and to the key about slackware and samba steps... it looks easy but nothing with good examples for me to learn from...

and there are a couple questions i have...

..how to umount a share after you don't want it anymore
..how to mount a winxp or win2k share
..is it possible to turn my little box into a firewall/router/dns/webserver? (with some upgrades)

i've tried the mount -t and the smbmount and I get errors, some where filesystem not supported, then i uncommented ntfs in modprobe so now i got a little further. now the error is "special device ##### not found" # = my win2k or winxp ip

i do a smbclient -L localhost and enter my pass and it gives me the list of shares...yada yada

i know i'm close, i just need a little nudge

a big thanks to anyone who is patient enough to read this ;D

ok i do the following...

mount -t ntfs -o username=<me> //192.168.1.2 /mnt/win2k

and i get:
mount: special device //192.168.1.2 does not exist.

???
probably a stupid question but i'm asking anyway...
now does the username have to be in my linux box or my win2k machine... if win2k, its there...

hmm oddly enough... i figured something out... go me! :P

ignore the previous post...

i added my win2k Administrator
and my login for my WinXP machine to my linux users
then added them to smbpasswd
and i didn't have to mount anything...

i can see my shares on my win machines
and i can ftp (ie browser) or network neighbourhood in and copy files to my box

i'm just wanting to use linux as a server instead of win2k...heh

thanks acid_kewpie for the link!

ok this is wierd...

i rebooted my linux box and when it came back on it doesn't notice my winxp machine but it notices my brother's machine in our domain VIPER and the win2k machine.

i wonder why it stopped noticing my xp machine?

my Administrator login for samba on my win2k machine work great... i just can't get xp to get in...
