Remote Access Help

Hi i want to configure my linux box for remote acccess
i already have the SSH host running on startup and can accesss it when i'm on my own lan from my laptop, however i would like to be able to access my comptuer from school
How can i find/assign my comptuer a static hostname or ip adress that i can SSH to to use it at school.
Right now i am connnecting to ssh host by using 192.168.0.105 which is obviously a local ip from my router . How can i find out what to tell the ssh client to look for when i am not in my house.

You could use a "Dynamic DNS" service so that whenever you weren't home you could do ssh mybox.no-ip.com or something along those lines. No matter what your IP address is on the outside the DDNS service will automatically update and the name will resolve to the correct IP. There are two services that I know of:

DynDNS

no-ip.com

Good luck!

is there anyway i can get my computer to broadcast a a host name or static ip without having to actually pay for a domain. I am not really concerned about security right now but interested in simply being able to connect to my server from any internet access point. is there a way i can design this

There are free domain services out on the internet. Try googling for them I know they will turn up. After that it shouldn't be hard to configure and you'll have the setup you want.

Both of the dynamic IP DNS sites that Centinul posted are free.
A client runs on your PC that automatically updates your dynamic IP address to the DNS site. You will need to configure your router to foward ssh traffic to your server. To access your server all you need to do is use your URL you selected from the DNS site.
