Possible to remote control a Linux PC from a Windows PC?

So I'm at college, and the only PC I left at home is an old one running Ubuntu. Since my sisters aren't really Linux savvy, sometimes they're stuck on something and call me. I try to walk them through it verbally, but it'd be a whole lot easier if I could just remote control it and do it that way. Is it possible to do this from my laptop? It's running XP Home.

Yes. Their are RDP packages for Linux that enable you to go over 189 and control remote desktops.

If you can live with doing your work on a console, ssh is all you need. If you do need to access the gui, try running VNC over an ssh tunnel. If you do a search here you'll find many threads explaining how to use ssh and VNC.

Yea, I think he means that he wants to help fix his sisters Windows boxes on their home network and the only access he has is through a Linux box he left running at home.

Since he's only running XP Home, it doesn't come with the rpd package.

So he can just run exceed on his local desktop and then install RDP on his linux box and export his display.

Ahh yea, I see that now that I re-read it.

Use ssh and stop being a GUI baby!

CLI owns.

Just find a X display server for windows and export your display.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I could definitely do stuff command-line, but I kind of wanted them to be able to see what I was doing so they could learn for themselves, and I doubt they'll take too quickly to CLI. I was thinking something like GoToMyPC where the person at the other end can see what the remote controller is doing. I'll be going back home for break on Saturday, and I'll check out all these options and see which one works the best. Thanks again!

Use WM vare server on Linux and on Windows you can run WM client to connect ot Linux . You will have X windows on your Windows PC from your Linux PC.

Also webmin is good solution too.

You can administer complete Linux PC from Windows OC using any web browser.

VNC is probably the simplest and easiest way: http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/VNC

What version of Ubuntu is the box running? I have Ubuntu 5.10 "Breezy" running at my house and it includes a vnc server that connects directly to display 0. I think it's called GNOME remote desktop or something to that effect. I'm at work now, but I'll post more info on setting it up when I get home.
