Network Error: Connection Reset by Peer

When using a modem and WinSCP V2.0, Build 99 to transfer a sub directory (35 files and 154MB), and after a period of time I receive the following notice:
Network error: Connection reset by peer.
Also when I use my network I have no trouble if I use an IP address (i.e. nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn) but when I use www.sitename.com I also receive the same error.
I have tried Secure iXplorer (www.i-tree.org) and it also fails. Please keep in mind that I'm new to Linux. Thanks

Do you have any firewall running, that blocks a connection or kill a connection after a few time? That would explain why it happen after a period of time. You say, when you connect it in your LAN, then you have no troubles? What is with FTP or HTTP Transfers? The same Error?

I have a firewall. The only time I have trouble is when I use a WinSCP2 with a modem or with amy LAN connection set for a www.sitename.com -- WinSCP is a freeware SCP (Secure CoPy) client for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP using SSH (Secure SHell). Its main function is safe copying of files between a local and a remote computer

hmm.... i know WinSCP but i never had those problems with it. It's difficult to say what is going wrong. But i think it has something to do with your firewall. If not, and all other protocols (incl. FTP) work fine, it could be a misconfiguration of the SSH Server. Another chance to find out is to sniff the Network Adapter to see what's going wrong and whitch packages are send when the connection reset. Install Etherreal or SpyNet for Windows. I hope this helps....
