[SOLVED] Motorola SurfBoard SB4200 Cable Modem

I've just purchased a new HP laptop (Windows 7) but the SB4200 drivers will not load from the CD.

Half way through the installation assistant process the message 'Object Expected' comes up and halts the process.

I am currently using the modem with a PC (Windows XP) without any connectivity issues.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is and if there is a fix?

I will be moving to wireless broadband soon but would like to use the laptop on the internet before then.

Windows drivers are not compatible with linux and I do not think USB is supported. Are you using USB or ethernet? The simplest fix would be to connect to the MODEM with an ethernet cable. If the computers are directly connected by ethernet i.e. no router then you will only be able use one at a time since typically a home cable service only provides one dynamic IP address.
