Hi have a problem with my usb modem, it wont be detected on slackware 10.0, its like i have no interenet. I tried reading guides to fix it but i cant, and im running bare a non-usb kernel is there anyway that i can get my internet through my usb cable, because my nic doesnt work. ( Note: my usb mouse is detected and works fine, but i dont know why the modem wont be detected)
I would really apreciate ur help, im a nub at linux just started 2 days ago so a step by step guide would really help me heh.
Are you sure that your nic is broken? It could just be that you do not have the proper module loaded, or you did not compile support for it in your kernel. I just reread you first post and you said you are running "a bare non-usb kernel". You are definitely going to need to do a recompile, and make sure you have usb support for your chipset (via, sis, inte, and usb 1.1 or 2.0). After that (I am a little hazy on this cause I have never used usb with my modem) make sure at least all of the lights are light up on your modem. You do not want to go rumaging through your linux box, when it is never going to work. I am assuming that you just go the modem, and it might be bad. If it is good to go, then check out /usr/doc/Linux-FAQs/ and /usr/doc/Linux-HOWTOs/ there is some really really good documentation in there. Good Luck.
