LAN-How to Browse


LAN Plz help a newbie ( post #1)

hi

this may sound stupid but plz confirm this as i am a newbie who has no networking experience;
ping is working fine
does that mean my linux n/w is up and running

intelligent part:

i have rh9 installed on the n/w

how do i access folders of other PC's in the network

is there any GUI for accessing the OTHER PC' in the network in linux

one of my PC has a modem and a working internet connection
how to share internet connection for other PC's

how do i connect linux and windows by using samba

Plz expain in detail as i am a

on the nautilus type in smb:// I'm assuming that you have windows boxes and its configured for file sharing

AND, if you don't know how to have the windows box configed for networking, you can share out the windows box by right clicking on a folder you wish to share and click properties and then select the Sharing Tab...the rest is straight forward...then, when you go to smb:/// you will see the workgroup, then the shared folder.

And if like me you just tried this 'cus I didn't know how to do it as well and find that the 'sharing' thing doesn't appear when you right click on the folder, you need to right click on network neighbourhood and enable sharing of files under the sharing button.

OK. So how do you permanently attach or mount an SMB share then? I assume something in fstab but what??
