File sharing (NFS) - how ?

Probably a really stupid question but how do i share files between my computer and laptop ?

They are both connected to an asus switch (along with an ADSL router) using DHCP.

Internet sharing works fine, ifconfig tells me that the addresses of the computers are 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4.

I can ping the laptop from my computer and vice-versa. I just don't now how to share files. I have fedora 8 installed on both systems. thanks!

All you need is Samba. Here's a guide, look under section 30 Servers.

I'm trying to set up a linux to linux file share, so it's nfs that i should use. However it won't start on my laptop.

Code:
Starting NFS services: [ OK ]
Starting NFS quotas: Cannot register service: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused
rpc.rquotad: unable to register (RQUOTAPROG, RQUOTAVERS, udp).
                                                           [FAILED]
Starting NFS daemon:
SElinux is disabled. This is my /etc/exports:

Code:
/data/Shared/ *(rw,async,all_squash)
I have no settings in /etc/hosts.allow or /etc/hosts.deny so there couldn't be a conflict. I am a newbie nfs so i could be getting all this wrong, so help please

I've also tried system-config-nfs but it hung up on the same error. what should i do ? i've wasted at least 3 hours on this so i'll cry now...

Thanks, but i figured it out on my own

The service portmap wasn't running so nfs couldn't start. It took me some time to figure there is no portmap in fedora, that it's instead called rpcbind. Upon activating that service, nfs worked and i was able to share files between my 2 PCs.
