Ubuntu NFS file sharing not working
I'm trying to figure out how to share files/network my desktop cpu with my laptop cpu. Both are running Ubuntu Hoary 5.04. When I setup a test folder on the desktop cpu, I right click on it and select "share folder". After entering my password I have a choice of "smb" or "nfs". I select "nfs" and then select "specify ip address". I enter the ip address for my laptop and click OK. I wait a few minutes for the network to update itself and check my laptop to see if my test folder shows up. It doesn't. What am I doing wrong?
I've tried "smb" but it has problems. The shared smb folder shows up on my laptop but when I try to copy the folder onto my laptop's harddrive, the copy progress bar says it will take about 11 hours to copy 99 files. These are text files! I can sneaker net them faster than that.
I've tried to read through several threads about samba and nfs. They all are run through the terminal with complex commands. Twenty years ago I used to use line commands to copy files in dos. Today I live in a world where it is possible in some OS's to sweep select files and folders with a mouse, click and drag those files and folders onto another folder icon for another computer and the copy process completes in less than a minute. How can I accomplish that same click and drag copying over the network process in Ubuntu?
Thanks!
