Ethernet card

Hello there,

I am using RH7,2 and am using a Pentium III 650MHz system.

I have installed a D-Link DFE-538TX Ethernet PCI card which I beleive is a RealTek8139 card but this card is not recognized in the Linux. If i try to compile using manufacturers driver (using manufacturer's Makefile) then it stops with errors.

I checked my kernel configuration and found under Ethernet 10/100 Mbit cards as unselected. So what do i need to do? do I need to rebuild kernel ? I did try ... but unfortunately it always fail with some Segmentation Fault.

I am very frustrated, please help me.

Thanks !

Salman

I looked it up and it does seem to use the rtl8139 module, which recently has switched over to being 8139too.

I don't know which one RH7.2 shipped with offhand as I'm a big fan of Slackware and 3com or tulip cards. Try:

modprobe rtl8139

or

modprobe 8139too

and see what happens.

Luck,

Finegan
