This is probably easy stuff but I'm getting very confused. What I'm trying to do is create an extra virtual host for a forum on my apache server. Let's see what I got working:
1 I got a domain
www.example.net
It's configured as an A record at the ISP and the config states:
example.net ---- ip adres
That's what I got and works. The site is configured as a virtual one on Apache on my server at home.
What I want is that forums.example.net ends up in its own www folder on the apache server. How to accomplish that?
I can create a subdomain as an A record or a Cname record at the ISP but after reading all kinds of howto's I'm not sure what to use or how. Should it be an CNAME record: forums.example.net pointing to example.net? That would make it end up in the www folder from example.net and typing it now already does that.
I guess I have to edit the apache server aswell, since typing forums.example.net makes me end up at example.net. I guess I have to delete the line: server alias *.example.net.
Pfff hope this makes any sence to you. The reason for all this is simple. Creating a forums.example.net on it's own www folder on the server makes it much easier for me to keep the site and forum stuff seperated.
