Question Could I set a NIC running in a fixed rate??


Hello guys,
I am a linux newbie, got a Q about how to limit NIC to run in a fixed rate....
ex: 10Mpbs, 5Mbps, 500Kbps....and so on
I am not sure if this is a good question or not, but really wantta know
have any solutions or not
I've found the details of
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethN files, but got nothing....

so~ Could someone tell me some solutions??

Hi,

there're some tools (mii-tool, ethtool) that can be used to set the speed & duplex (10-100M, half or full). But they can only set speed to what the different ethernet norms are (so you won't be able to fix it to 5M).

If you really need to use such rates, the only way I see is to use tc (traffic control) which is the tool used to control QoS... but that's much more complex. Here's a link to tc : http://www.lartc.org/
