hi,
hostname is the simple command thru which one can view the name of ur Linux box.
Moreover u can even chnge the name of ur Linux machine using this command like this
hostname <newnameofmachine>
and hostname only to print the name of your linux machine.

but if you are talking about the network name that is visible under windows client then you have to set netbios name using samba.
