Change port on Linux Net Browser


How do u change the port that the Linux Browser is trying to connect to ?

Do you mean a web browser? Just supply the port in the url - ie for port 8000:
http://www.somehost.com:8000/

Why would you want to? Web servers NOT running on port 80 are much rarer than those that are.

hmmm..i aint trying to connect to web server....my router...im running linux 9.1 and im new but i can't seem to get onto websites...any ideas?

If your DSL router runs a webserver on a port other than 80, I'd be very surprised, but trying to connect to websites using a different port isn't going to help at all as they usually only listen for connections on one specific port.

ok...so u got any advice for me?
As i'm considering using Linux most of time
i can get on AMSN mesenger..
just not websites
anything to do with proxy?

If you have set proxy settings, try disabling them. You didn't mention that you could connect to messenger - that would have saved a lot of guessing about what could be wrong.

What browser are you using? There are many... konqueror? mozilla? opera? another?

There will usually be an options or preferences menu option, with proxy settings in there, but if you didn't set proxy info, it's not likely to be there (unless someone else set it up for you). What ISP are you using? Do they force you to use a proxy?

im using korqueror.

I am connecting the computer to my router which is then dialling to BT Broadband.

I have just re installed Linux and have not changed any settings.
