Question How to change the port assignment in Red Hat Linux 8

Hi,

All

Hope everybody is doing fine! One of my client want to change the default port assignment. As for example the default SMTP port assignment is 25, but the clients wants to change it to port 29 due to the reason best known to him. I am not able to figure out how to this? The client is in a hurry as they are shifting to linux. It would nice of you if you tell me how to do this? If at all feasible then how to do this? Please let me know in details how to do this? Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Thanking you all

Well I know that this can be specified in the configuration files for certain daemons. Like in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file there is a section that looks like this:

#Port 22
Protocol 2
#ListenAddress 0.0.0.0
#ListenAddress ::

You could change the port that it listens on there.

Also, if there is a router sitting outside your linux machine you could forward all requests from port 29 to port 25. This way the linux machine is still actually listening on port 25 but the router takes care of the port forwarding.

Does that make sense?
