That's a good idea! I'll try it when I get home.


The "A" in adsl is asyncronous. That's what most home DSL lines are, since the upload and download aren't the same.

Sorry, but ifconfig only works when logged in as root, not by using su from a terminal.

Works fine here. Might be a local thing. Try switch user to root " su root" instead of just su

If not I guess your stuck logging in as root

You have to incluse the full path to ifconfig when using su, /sbin/ifconfig.

Did you set the default gateway to the internal IP address of the router? If you do this it should pick up all the info it needs. That is if the router is set up with DHCP. Also I believe that Linksys routers have there own caching names serrver too. If not do edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0. You can add the default gateway there. I am not familiar with Mandrake network scripts, post here and let me know if that did not work.
