xorg.conf / Acer Apire One (& dpi)

I'm trying to optimize video performance (and change dpi values) on
a Acer Apire One (the one with a tiny screen) which has Debian
(wheezy) installed.

The first step is to generate a xorg.conf file.
The following error message is displayed when attempting to generate:

Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices.
Configuration failed.
Sever terminated with error(2)

However a xorg.conf file is generated.

Why are 4 graphics devices defined and enabled? (intel, vesa & fbdev)
Shouldn't only one device be enabled? Is the intel driver the best
choice?

Seems odd 4 monitors are defined since no external monitor was
connected when the xorg.conf file was generated.

I would like to disable the touchpad pointing device globably
(system wide). Should I be changing the protocal value from auto
to someother value in the InputDevice secton?
Can I disable the device at a "lower level" maybe in /dev?
No I can not disable at BIOS level.

Finally the default value for dpi 97 X 97 is a bit small for
these values:

I refer you to a post of mine in another forum:
http://forum.mepiscommunity.org/view...p?f=94&t=37551

Is there a way to set the dpi value system wide using:

xrandr --dpi

I sure there must be a configuration file somewhere I could
insert this command in.

Thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Tom

What that has done is apparently dump an unmodified Xorg.conf template as Xorg.conf. Nothing is configured

You may not need an xorg.conf at all. Most of that has moved to xorg.conf.d/ anyhow

May I suggest you look around for a sample and configure That? You might get something close from linux-laptop.net and rwead 'man xorg.conf' while configuring it. All options mentioned there

Thank you for your suggestion business_kid, I found what I required here:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Acer_..._One#xorg.conf

In my humble opinion it was a mistake for the X11 devs to consider xorg.conf obsolete.
I guess my preference for simple text configuration files makes me a ludite.

It's not that bad.

We all copied half the stuff anyhow, (files, paths, mice, etc.) and then had several crashes while it picked us up on syntax errors. Now you put the non-standard bits in xorg.conf.d/something.conf - just the sections or subsections of xorg.conf that are non standard on your system. I just have the keyboard section to specify the keyboard layout.
