Question Which distribution for my T22?

Hey guys,

I recently started to try linux on my T22. Most stuff works now, but there's one major flaw of the distro's I've tried so far (which were Ubuntu breezy/dapper and ELive): starting programs is WAY slower than on Windows.
I read somewhere that E17 Enlightenment is supposed to be the fastest window manager out there so I gave that one a try too (installed on Ubuntu dapper and then using ELive).
It was a little faster but still far away from Windows performance. So my thought was maybe a different distribution would do the trick. But being a linux newbie I'm pretty clueless since there are soo many to choose from, so I hope you can suggest me some.

Regards,
eclaw

Details count. Ok, let's start with some basics. What are the machine's specs?

Ok, that's a start. There are a few things that can slow performance. Firstly is having unneeded services running, disable them.

Is dma activated for your hdd?

512MB of memory would definately help.

I'd suggest going with a lighter distro. ELive is a livecd distro which will always be slower not matter what.

Using a light window manager like Fluxbox or XFCE will help.

Give something like Slackware or DSL a try. They are far lighter distros. I'm partial to Slack myself but you have to be prepared to configure some things manually (edit the config files). It would run quite well in that machine.
