toshiba satellite a10 sound problem

hello
i have a toshiba satellite a10 laptop installed with redhat 9
normally the soundcard works fine
but
the problem arise when i try to do some heavy loading stuff while using the soundcard
example: compiling kernel while playing mp3
immediate effect after heavy loading is the mp3 start lagging, then the sound disappear
when i use top to check on it,
top shows me mpg123 is utilizing 98 to 99 % of cpu
and its forever
i try to kill mpg123 process but somehow i cant manage to do it
even i try to
kill -9 xxxx

any idea why/how to solve this?
thanks
