Toshiba Satellite A10 Software Modem not working

I hav just installed Debian linux on my Toshiba Satellite A10. The modem is a 56k software modem and i cant get it to connect to the internet. I hav used scanModem but it doesnt recognise it. I have tried slmodem and ltmodem drivers but to no avail. Im quite sure it is an AC97 AMR modem, the driver for windows is supplied by Agere.

Has any one got this kind of modem to connect? If so what drivers do i need to get?

If i need to support more information such as the scanModem log then i can when requested.

Got it working with kernel 2.6.x

Install and compile slmodem-2.9.9 driver (just make and make install)
http://www.smlink.com/main/index1.php?ln=en&main_id=40

# modprobe slamr
# slmodemd /dev/slamr0 (leave it running)

/dev/modem symlink should point to /dev/ttySL0 if not than make this symlink

Do you mean /dev/ttyS10 (that's the number ten) instead of "S L 0"?

In fact, that was pretty helpful - have you considered writing a Linux Tutorial? There are a few A10 users around and this would be invaluable.

In fact I have written a tutorial for this notebook a while ago
Take a look at the tutorial.
I submitted this to linux-laptop.net and I'm waiting for it to be added first.
