Startx causes kernel panic but startsX

Hello,

I'm currently running Gentoo linux on my Compaq Armada m700. It is a great little machine for me, and has been up and running for about 4 months now. Since i first installed X i noticed, i get a kernel panic, however it straightens itself out, and X is eventually loaded, after aprox.... 30 - 60 seconds...... i was wondering if this could be avoided. as once the panic is done, X starts very quickly....however I have no idea how to troubleshoot a kernel panic. My logs state that i get a whole slue of keyboard time outs when X is starting, coudld that be it?? I'm using Xfree... and my kernel is 2.4.25 and............ i know its a kernel panic as all my little leds flash..... Once X loads... everything is fine, and my laptop works like a charm.... just wanna speed up my X startup..... any ideas ?
