Screen dim when switching back to X from console

For some reason my X display goes dim after I switch from X to a console and back. The only way that I know to restore it is to restart X, but that is unacceptable since I also have to restart all of my applications. Does anyone know why this happens and what I could do to fix it (or at least a way to restore it without shutting X down)? I use the Xfce desktop with Slackware 10.1 on an IBM 600E. Everything else works great on both my 2.4 and 2.6 kernels except this problem.

Any help would be much appreciated as I have looked into this subject before with no results...

sorry I forgot about that rule....the reason I did it was because I posted the question almost a month ago (slackeware forum) and got no response (so I figured that posting it in other forums would increase my chances of getting a response). It won't happen again.
