problems with ati mobility radeon 5650 using ubuntu 11.10

I am running ubuntu 11.10 in my laptop acer aspire 7745G. I have a graphic card ATI radeon hd 5650. It was working well until I upgraded from ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10. I can not adjust the resolution of the second monitor any more. The only resolution that I can use is the same in my laptop (1600x900) and in the secondary monitor that has a better resolution (1920x1080).
I downloaded the driver from adm and I installed it, I also tried with the third party driver installer but I can not solve the problem.

I was using a Chrome9HCL builtin in my motherbaord. I changed to a 9250 ATI card. the max resolution in my system was 1360 x 1024 and it was the default. the problem sounds similar to my basic problem. it seems to be a builtin limit of ATI. it seems to be diffrent for each different card.
