Ati Mobility Radeon 3650 and Ubuntu 10.04

Hi everyone,
I've recently installed Ubuntu Lucid Linx on my Toshiba Satellite P300-19F laptop, which is equipped with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 video board.
The open source driver which is loaded by Ubuntu works quite well but I would like to use proprietary drivers provided by ATI. However, if I choose to activate fglrx drivers in 'Driver Hardware' section, the system hangs during the following reboot and X start (color artifacts and PC freeze). Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks so much in advance. Stefano

We'd need to see the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file that is being generated by X when you use the fglrx driver. Can you ssh in from another machine after X hangs?

May I see the content of Xorg.0.log in a recovery mode?

No, I cannot ssh in from another machine after X hangs, but maybe I could see the content of Xorg.0.log in a recovery mode before starting X?
Do you think it could be possible?
Stefano

You could try, but chances are if the machine is locking up so solidly, the log file isn't finished being written to when the lockup occurs. Unfortunately I do not have another suggestion at the moment.
