If the top of my head, I don't really have any good answers, but maybe you can try expert mode and configure your own hardware... I know this is not something that a newbie should take on, but it might help you out.
That or see if you can disable your PCMCIA device for now, maybe through the BIOS or something (or just remove anything you've got in there, just for now) and then once you get installed, put it back in and configure it then.
You can also try a text based install that will give you better info on what's going on, you might actually get an error message you can post up.
