New to Linux. Trying Fedora Core 3 and Mandrake 10.1. Installed Pilot Synch conduits, but cannot link to my Palm Tungsten in its cradle and synch. This is faitly important to me. Can anyone tell a newbie - who is still discovering what is under the bonnet - how to go about this? (USB connection to cradle.)
first try and find out what the messages file says when hotsyncing your tungsten , become root and tail -f /var/log/messages and see what ttyUSB* are shown when pressing the hotsync icon on your tungsten
My comes in on ttyUSB0 en ttyUSB1 and in my pilot settings under evolution I choose ttyUSB1 as the device , perhaps you also need to change the permissions of /dev/ttyUSB1
and then it works , I di for me ...
if not : with output from there (messages file in /var/log/) and some googling , you will get it working , but i just installled my laptop with fedoracore 2 an it works out of the box so to speak
ther is one conduit that wont run nicely under Evolution of Kpilot and thats the backupconduit , it crashes somewere on Photo-Img , I've not been able to solve that yet so I just dont backup the complete palm , only sync the calender /contacts en todo
I run MDK 10.1, and to get my Tungsten T3 to sync, I had to boot using the "noapic" option. Apparantly, with some chipsets at least, APIC (A<something>P<something> Interrupt Controller) gets in the way, and doesn't allow USB connections properly.
Hi, when I try to synch with J Pilot (press the synch button on my Tungsten cradle, and then on the J Pilot programme) I get the following message:
Syncing on device /dev/pilot
Press the HotSync button now

The folks at SuSE have made the decision to get behind kpilot, rather than jpilot, resulting in some really poor jpilot results...
Hotplug automatically launches the kpilotdaemon, which nerfs jpilot...
My solution was to set jpilot's synch port to blank, and just use kpilot to synch,... and making a symlink to jpilot's sub-directory from the kpilot subdirectory... But you are then limited to making all changes on the Palm. Or you can edit the code of one of the hotplug scripts found in the /etc/hotplug directory...
My problem is the bigger issue of ToDos in SuSE 9.x,... the ToDo lists aren't showing up properly, and its kind of bizzare. They are coming across in syncs, it's just that no program is displaying them properly.
I'm trying to get help on syncing my Treo 350 using jpilot. The error message I get is identical to yours. Specifically:
Syncing on device /dev/ttyS0
Press the HotSync button now

pi_bind invalid argument

Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_BIND

This is new problem. I used jpilot successfully for months. However, this past weekend, I needed, for the first time, to try to configure my external modem for a dial-up internet connection. To do that, I used the same serial port that I otherwise use for jpilot. Not only was I unsuccessful configuring the modem, but afterwards, when I tried to sync, this error message appeared.
I've since deleted the modem settings, but that does not help. If you came up with a fix, I'd love to know it. I'm afraid that I have to admit to being a relative newbie, so I need the instructions in baby steps.
Here are some of my notes on problem. Had the trouble with previous SuSE releases too. This
seems to fix the probolem. The problem is basically permissions/ownership of the
serial port being used.

Sync will not work. Errors:

1. Default owner of /dev/ttyUSB0 is root.uucp
2. Default permissions of /dev/ttyUSB0 are 660
3. Using 'yast users' add yourself to the uucp group.
4. Logout, then log back in. Should work.
Note: Once removed the 'uucp' group, but after an Online Update it was back and all the
changes to get rid of it were gone. Jpilot rpm had been removed??. Reinstalled it,
all my data was still intact. But had to do the above.
