Need Help, Compaq presario sound card (ALI 5451) Mandrake 10.0

Need help getting sound from compaq presatio 2100 series laptop. I am running Mandrake 10.0 kernel 2.4.21-0.30

The sound card is a ALI 5451 (10b9:5451)

good old sndconfig has been tried, identifies 10b9:5451 but says unknown vendor etc and exits.

lsmod does show snd-ali5451 as being loaded which should make it work, but no luck when i play any sound files etc. I know the thing (speakers etc) work.

The thing is obviously as the module is loaded etc, i don't (i think) have any error messages to submit.

I am sure more information is required abt this but can someone please tell and I will post.

Thanks

bring up kmix to check if the volume is all the way down, bring them up if so, then use kmix to save the volume settings by right clicking on the speaker icon on the taskbar, then configure kmix. This is assuming you are using kde (in specific kde 3.2)

Oopppps!! This should have gone in the newbie forum.

I did previously check the volume level on kmix, which was ok.

But this time while digging around I realised that the input from CD was at zero. (I am using a cd to check the sound).

Sound is go!

Thanks
