mandrake 9.1 on dell inspiron 8500 dma problem


hello,

i have a dell inspiron 8500, and there are still a few problems...
but the most anoying problem is the slow hdd. i am not able to activate dma via

hdparm -d1 /dev/hda
i always get an errormessage "not allowed" i found a lot of websites with kernelpatches for redhat 9, but these aren't working... i use the latest kernel for mandrake-ftp but it is still not working... anybody solved this?
