Is about ACPI for Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop

Hi everyone,

I download the acpi from website and save file into my directory ( /root/Redhat9_Software/Acpi/

The file I download is acpi-20031002-2.4.22.diff.bz2, my question is that

I am not sure understand that of how to intall.

Is said that,

$ cd <path to unpacked linux sources> (e.g. /usr/src/linux)

$ bunzip2 -c <path to acpi-patch>/acpi-<version>.diff.bz2 | patch -p1
$ gunzip -c <path to acpi-patch>/acpi-<version>.diff.gz | patch -p1

Would that be

cd /root/Redhat9_Softwar/Acpi

bunzip2 -c acpi-20021002-2.4.22.diff.bz2 | patch -p1

Then is doing something stuff and came up ask for
File to patch: ?????????????

What is suppose to put in ?

Anybody idea of what ?

Thanks, Chico...........

How to install it

Okay. You have to go to and search for ACPI.

Then go the ACPI website. There will be a link from

There will be a HOWto on that page.

You have to unzip and patch the files in /usr/src/linux-xxxx. Not the files in ACPI.

Have fun.
