I'm trying to install linux on my iBook G3, I want it to overwrite the Mac OS X currently installed on it. Although when I put in the drive Slackware Disc 1 (ISO) it will spin (like when you put a disc in your hard drive and you can here it reading it) for about 20 seconds then eject the disc and continue to boot up on Mac OS X.
Please help, if you need more information just ask.
As far as I know the difference is that Slackware is an x86 Linux distro, not a PPC one. This won't work on your iBook because the iBook runs on PowerPC architecture.
There are PPC Linux Live CDs out there, but I don't know if there is one for Slackware ...
Well everyone has been telling me to get slackware on my iBook because it would be perfect with what I've been wanting to do. So can anyone confirm/unconfirm that it dosen't work on iBooks?
Sorry to say this, but Slack is only for x86 (i386, etc...) computers (basically, windows-compatible)
I am looking for a linux distro for my iBook tho... I have kubuntu installed... its fun, but I font it doesnt unleash all the power that my iBook has to offer... any suggestions?
What you need to use is Yellowdog instead of Slackware.
Yellowdog is LInux for mac systems. I've installed it in a couple of machines and runs like a clock.
Here is the URL: http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/
HOpe this helps.
