I am a newbie to SUSE9.1. Need help with installing ATI Radeon 340M. Please help.
I am using HP nx9000 laptop running on suse 9.1 kernal 2.6.5*
I am Window user who is migrating to linux after realizing the potentials open source and the wonders of linux.
And my first challenge in linux is configuring the ATI Radeon 340M chipset. I have read many of the How To over the past 2 months and none have been successful. This also could be due to my knowledge in linux is very shallow.
Thanks for offering your services. This is what I have done. I installed SUSE9.1. Then I followed the How To "3D acceleration on an ATI IGP 340M" by scoobe_e. Everything went fine. There was no errors. When I reeboted the system, it could not startx automatically. The system returned to the prompt. I logged as root and did startx. The system started KDE and there was no change.

How do i go about trouble shooting the error?
What error did you get? Are you saying you now have X windows problems now? You may want to start another thread for that one.
Before I did the "How To ...", I was able to log into x windows automatically upon start up. After I have done the "How To ...", my system will attemp to auto log on but it would fail and return to command line.
The error message shown is "KDE failed to start"
I need to log on from command line and type startx to start Xwindow. Then only i am able to logon to Xwindow. I have no idea what went wrong as there was no error through out the "How to ...".
