In my experince, one of the best resources is linux-on-laptops.com, after a quick peek on their IBM page I noticed several entries for both the T41 and the T41p, which may well be worth a close look at:

I've been running Libranet 2.8.1, which is base on debian, for about 3months now. I have everything working on it, except for my resolution. I like to get it running at 1400X1028 but 1028X768 is good enough.

If you're new to linux like me Libranet is a good place to start. Although it cost about $40 but it's the best $40 i spent.

Stuff that's working on my t41:

Kernel: 2.6.6 with 2.6.7 patch
Sound: alsa
dvd/cdrw: works
mouse : synaptic driver
wireless : using ndiswrapper
video: xfree 4.3

Feel free to ask me any questions, i'm not an expert but i can try to help

You mean you cant get it to run at 1400x1050? Thats what mine will be (ATI Radeon 9000 Video card). Im looking forward to getting it. I might also swap the wireless card to an a/b/g one. b just doesnt do much for me
