acpi doesn't work

Hi,

I've installed MandrakeLinux 10.1 on my HP Pavillion ze4500 and have generally gotten everything to work smoothly - except the acpi. If I activate it, Mandrake refuses to start up. Anyone got any suggestion on how to get it to work? the noise from the fan really annoys me...:-(
