USB modules not installed by build

Hi,

It's been some time ( years actually ) since I last built a kernel, 2.6.23, using the Xeonmai real-time stuff.
Doing an upgrade to newer xeonmai2.x on a 3.5.7 kernel.

Things went fine and kernel loaded and passed xeonmai test suite, but when the newly compiled application was executed, the USB devices were not found. Oops!

Look's like the usb modules in /lib/modules/ no longer include the files for "input" or "net" that were part of the 2.6.23 kernel. Checking I see those are no longer part of the kernel source in the drivers directory.

When did this change?

Could someone please explain the new approach to loading USB driver modules or point me to a tutorial or reference on the subject.

Thanks
John
