porting the patches forward

hi,

In order to get a certain functionality going I need to patch my kernel with a patch which is avaialble here:
http://sourceware.org/systemtap/kprobes/

Now the problem is the latest patch they have is for Kernel 2.6.9 and I am currently using 2.6.16 kernel. Inspite of that I tried apply the patch to my kernel and it failed as suspected. Now is there any way by which I can make it work for my kernel. Do I just have to change the lines 2.6.9 in the patch to 2.6.16? Will that work?

Thanks

It won't work. If it is meant for 2.6.9, it is meant for 2.6.9.

Else, you might want to patch the changes manually and try to compile it.

Thanks dude for replying. Nowq in order to apply the patch manually I need to know how to read a patch? Do you happen to know any good pointers for that?

Thanks
