xSame detects webcam instead of scanner

Hi,

i have what i find a bit of an odd problem. I have a Intel PC webcam and a Canon D660U scanner, both USB, both (obviously) connected to my Linux box via USB hub. When I run sane-find-scanner, the scanner is detected:

[patrick@localhost patrick]$ sane-find-scanner

# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x8086, product=0x0110) at libusb:002:006
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9, product=0x2208, chip=LM983x?) at libusb:002:00 4
# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

# Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports can't be
# detected by this program.

# You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
# found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
# necessary.

However, when I go into the Gimp and run File | Aquire | XSane: device dialog, it wants to scan via the Intel Easy PC webcam. When I press the scan button it comes back with 'Failed to start scanner: invalid argument' error.

How can I get XSane to go to my scanner instead of the webcam. My scanner is the last device i need to get working to be Windoze free ...

Thanks,

Patrick

Some more info ... i am working of the sane installation pages. Running sane-find-scanner yields the result posted above, but when I run scanimage --list-devices is get the following:

[root@localhost usb]# scanimage --list-devices

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

Any suggestions ? Thanks,

Patrick
