verizon Dsl modem compatible


I waas thinking about geting dsl and was wandering if the free modem from verison will work with redhat 8.0

i don't know but i was wondering the same thing! i have verizon DSL
and Knoppix 3.2 doesn't seem to work with my Westell modem

If the modem connects via ethernet then you should be fine, is it's a USB connection then you may have problems.

dsl- thernet

it's an ethernet connection, but i still can't get online

Verizon DSL with the free Westel modem has worked "out-of-the-box" for me. Never had a problem with it.

modem work great in Windows , i'm on it now! it works in Lindows
but not with Knoppix

Erm, the same happens with me on Verizon DSL... it sets up the eth0 and all that stuff and I put in the username & password... but it doesn't work

I am on Verizon w/Westell modem and I went through hell trying to get RH connected(running slack now). For me thay use dhcp not pppoe. Verizon tech support was no help either, as soon as they heard "Linux" I think the vertigo set in.

This is what I has to do.
From windows run "ipconfig /all" - without qoutes.
write down all information i.e. IP address,Subnetmask, Default Gateway...
boot into RH and put in these values.
connect.

It has always worked for me.

Well for me it uses pppoe, but I'll try that anyway.
