Sound works only when Yast is invoked


When i boot Suse 9.3 I have no sound. When then i invoke Yast/sound/configure i get sound as long as that window is up i get sound.

I want sound all the time... what is the fix for this?

Hmm... This sounds like an interesting one.

Could you give some info about your soundcard?
For example, a
Code:
cat /proc/asound/cards
would be nice.

Also, are you using KDE? If you are, go to the Control Center, click on Multimedia and to Sound System and try playing a test sound (without running YaST).

i have another sound post now in hardware questioons.

Since this post I have gone from running Suse 9.3 to Suse 10.0

I still have sound problems though. I get sound on boot and on shutdown.

I cannot play a cd ...
