so i reinstalled
module-init-tools-0.9.12.tar.gz
and it all went well, but i still get those same errors
my installation of the module-init-tools went like this:
./configure
make
make install
./generate-modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.conf (wasnt necessary)
cp modprobe.devfs /etc/ (dont think i needed to but it iwas in the readme)
depmod 2.5.69
Ok, i got rid of the QM_MODULES stuff, when making modules-init-tools i forgot a step "make links"
Quote:
make links
"make links" makes links to the previous insmod, modprobe, rmmod and
lsmod (which are in /sbin) in /usr/local/sbin
So those messages are now gone, but now i get a lot of module errors, i could only catch these:
modprobe: FATAL: module rtc not found
modprobe: FATAL: module ide_scsi not found
modprobe: FATAL: module tulip not found
modprobe: FATAL: module mousedev not found
I dont get it, i thought i had these modules? What should i do
This is a development kernel, and as such things sometimes don't work. I don't run one myself and it's been a while since I fooled around with it so I can't offer much help.
Ok, i am an idiot! But the good news, Im writing this after i booted from lilo and i am listening to music! Look, i thought about it, with the default bare.i kernel on the slack9 cd everything worked but sound. So i reinstalled slack, copied the configure file of bare.i downloaded 2.4.20 kernel, in menuconfig i loaded the config file of bare.i, added the sound stuff, rebuilt and walla! I got everything working!!! This is going in the Success stories! Thankyou Thankyou THANKYOU, Aussie, Quietguy and ant_007uk, i have helped me so much thankyou...i think ill go listen to some more music

could you please post the config of that bare.i.....i have a fresh install of slack 9.0 and waiting for your reply!!!
thnx in advance
Hey, here you go! http://www.imahosting.com/dizastix/config
It was to big to post here so i uploaded it to my host. Hope this helps, also, it is on the slack cd in /kernels/bare.i/config.
(BTW It took kinda long to compile for me because of all the modules)
i found an alternate way to fix the problem through altering the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file
this method seems much easier than the methods listed earlier....all you have to do is login as root and add the following line to the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file...
/sbin/modprobe sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=0
thats it!.....too easy, and the best part is the volume control buttons on my laptop are recognized aswell!!!
I'm getting the same error with Slackware 9... I have onboard sound built in to my Epox8k7a motherboard so i'm not even sure what drivers i need. Heres the specs of it. Anyone know how i could get the sound working?

I just want to say thank you to everyone in this thread, I have slackware 9 and an es1868 isa card, i thougth there was no chance to get it going i gave up, came back got the confidence to recompile the kernel (which i did about 5 or 6 times) and now know a little bit more about linux. Thanks again!
