Sound card?

Is there a PCIe sound card(s) that works well in Linux which also the front panel (headphones/mic) will work?

NOT PCI - I have those.

Thanks so much for your anticipated responses.

More likely, most persons don't know what type of sound cards they have and don't really care because they just work.

This thread from the Ubuntu forums might help: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1361087

You should be able to use the front audio panel with soundcards with the headers for front audio (and its also possible to do things the other way, iwth leads from rear audio into the case and the front panel..not fun to wire up).

I'd get a Asus Xonar DX myself-
