Sound blaster Live! 24bit + Surround sound

Hi,

I have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 24bit and have got it running using ALSA 1.09rc3. It detects the card as Creative Labs : Unknown device 007 but allows me to set it up with the ca0106 module. Once I have set this up when I run the speaker test program I can hear output from all speakers, I have a 5:1 setup.

Code:
speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6
When playing a DVD from xine works great but the problem is when I try and play any app to do with MP3's. I have tried a few apps (xmms, juk) but it only plays from 2 speakers. How can I get it to output to all speakers?

I saw the same sound card running in windows playing the same MP3's with windows media player 9 and the sound was so good, is there anyway to get this sort of output in linux?

Any help would br great, I like my music!

Cheers

mp3 to all speakers answer: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...79#post1576579

use "duplicate" device for output

for example:

aplay -Dduplicate something.wav

There in XMMS duplicate device is not listed, you've to write it there by hand.

Copying the same level to all 6 channels is not surround sound at all. If you want a better effect of surround sound from a two channel source go to http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=240677 for example of ~/.asoundrc lines. For music, I suggest not using the subwoofer or surround sound. Music should be heard from only two channels to hear the sound stage and transients of the intruments and voices. Surround sound should be used in movies and in games.

The best sound card for music or movies is the Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1. Creative Labs makes sloppy sound cards for sound reproduction.
